TamalaVZW is calling on the Government of Sierra Leone to take a defining step — allocating dedicated spaces within major government hospitals in the country's main cities, staffed by specialists trained to treat and heal women living with Obstetric Fistula.

Obstetric Fistula is a devastating childbirth injury caused by prolonged, obstructed labour without access to timely medical care. It leaves a woman with an abnormal opening between the birth canal and the bladder or rectum, resulting in continuous leakage of urine or faeces. The condition is entirely preventable and treatable — yet it affects an estimated 500,000 women across Sub-Saharan Africa, with Sierra Leone among the hardest-hit nations. Women who suffer from it are often abandoned by family, excluded from community life, and left in silence.

TamalaVZW respectfully calls on the Government of Sierra Leone to take the following concrete steps:

Sierra Leone has one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the world. Decades of civil conflict, under-resourced health infrastructure, and geographic barriers have left thousands of women with untreated fistula — many living with the condition for years, even decades.

This campaign begins in Sierra Leone as our starting point — with the intention to expand the model to other African nations as specialist capacity is built and replicated. Every woman healed here is proof that this model works.

TamalaVZW is shining a light on Autism Spectrum Disorder in Sierra Leone — a country where thousands of children live with ASD undiagnosed, unsupported, and misunderstood. We are calling for awareness, acceptance, and action.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how a person communicates, processes the world around them, and interacts with others. It is a spectrum — meaning no two people with autism are the same. Some children thrive with the right support; others face profound daily challenges.

In Sierra Leone, ASD is widely misunderstood. Children with autism are frequently labelled as cursed, possessed, or simply "different" — and are denied education, healthcare, and community inclusion as a result. Many families suffer alone, with no diagnosis, no guidance, and no support system.
